Félix Vallotton (1865 – 1925)
In 1910 Vallotton painted “View of Trouville, Evening“, another major work. Sunset had become one of the artist's favorite themes and he devoted himself intensively to it during his summer vacation in Normandy. The coastal landscape inspired him to find some bold pictorial solutions, using which he achieved a high point of abstraction in his work. Vallotton was concerned with the calculated use of shape and color. He himself therefore referred to his late works as “composed landscapes”.
