Angelika March-Rintelen

Garden of Remembrance

The studio exhibition features works by Angelika March-Rintelen, an artist born in Neuss in 1952 and honored as a CityARTist in 2023. Her work focuses on the deliberate preservation of highly fragile and ephemeral elements of nature. To this end, the master student of Timm Ulrichs and trained biologist uses paper cutting and plant taxidermy to create mementos for remembrance.

While the artist recreates plants and animals through the process of sewing, the elaborate method of preservation allows for the retention of their natural appearance. She also includes humans as part of nature in her “preservation of traces.” Thus, her assemblages such as “Franconian Burial Ground” or “Bog Body” become multi-layered vanitas depictions.
