Representations from five centuries
The conclusion of the exhibition series for the Reformation Year in the Grafisches Kabinett was the synopsis of depictions of Christ from five centuries. No biblical figure has inspired artists throughout the centuries more than Christ. The artists not only found an expression for this central figure of the Bible that corresponded to their style, but also used it as a foil for their own personal feelings. The visitors embarked on a pictorial journey from the 16th to the 20th century and encountered, for example, the works of Rembrandt, Ensor, Denis and Slevogt up to Gerresheim.
