Heinrich Campendonk

Woodcuts

In the course of the new presentation of the art collection in 2010, the museum's graphic collection was given its own cabinet. Since then, monographic and thematic presentations have been shown there, providing insights into the rich and high-caliber holdings.

Following the presentation of selected sheets by Max Ernst, Otto Pankok and the artists' group "Die Brücke," the printmaking oeuvre of Heinrich Campendonk was now presented. Selected woodcuts, some of them colored, from the extensive collection were on display, which had never been seen before in this number and selection. In the Graphic Cabinet, visitors were able to discover an artist who, thanks to his woodcuts, most of which were only published in very small editions, occupies a central place in the history of printmaking in the 20th century.
